Are Tanning Beds as bad as everyone says?
Did you know that the death rate from cancer is higher in the northern states where sunlight is less plentiful
year around. The southern part of the United States as well as South American countries have a lower cancer
death rate due to the abundance of sunshine.
Did you know also that Johns Hopkins Medical School found in a study that sunlight actually helps PREVENT
some types of cancer. Take a look at the article provided by CLICKING HERE. This report is only one example
of many that can be found stating the benefits of UV Exposure from either the Sun or Tanning Beds. We are
naturally designed to be in the sun. The fact is we NEED some UV exposure to be healthy, and it's also
established that most of us now are not receiving enough to prevent the spread of many diseases that sunlight
has been PROVEN to prevent! Some people do carry that too far and spend countless hours under the sun
soaked in Baby Oil trying to get as black as possible. Salon Tanning is less about getting as black as possible
and more about obtaining a healthy glow and enjoying the health benefits that UV exposure provides. In fact,
We furnish receipts to several customers on a regular basis who's Doctors tell them to use our beds for skin
conditions such as Psoriasis and Chronic Acne.
At Tantra we tell our customers to use the "Glass of Wine" analogy..... A Glass of wine a day is good for you, A
bottle of wine and you're an alcoholic. Moderation is the key!
Why is High Pressure tanning more expensive?
High Pressure tanning is more expensive than conventional tanning due to several factors. First, the High
Pressure tanning beds are far more expensive for salons to purchase than regular, or low pressure beds.
Ordinary beds range in cost from about $8000.00 to $15000.00. High Pressure units start at around $25000.00
and often cost over $50,000.00 depending on the quality of the bed. Also special electrical upgrades must be
done to accommodate the extra power needed to operate the bed. If salon operators charged the average of
$9.00 per tan (The same price for a normal bed) it would take a whopping 5500 tans just to cover the cost of
the bed alone, not to mention electrical costs and replacement lamp costs (About $1800.00 every 3 months).
These expenses are then averaged into a "Per Tan" cost for the salon. When you subtract the cost from the
price paid for the session you see that salons only typically make about $10 to $15 profit per session. That may
seem like a great profit margin but when you consider that the salon had to pay out $50,000.00 to make $10 or
$15 for each tan.... Well, you get the picture.
I paid less than that for a High Pressure session before. How is that possible?
It IS possible to pay less for a High Pressure session. This lower cost is usually due to the fact that you have a
membership that allows you to "Upgrade" to that bed. If you have paid a low price for a High Pressure bed but
didn't have a membership.... You didn't get a real "High Pressure" bed. I can't tell you how many times I've
visited other salons and the salon operator will show me their "High Pressure Mega Bed" which, it turns out, is
NOT High Pressure at all. Some salon OWNERS don't even know what High Pressure is, but their charging a
higher fee for that bed. Spotting real High Pressure is simple. The lamps will be small and square, about 12
inches by 12 inches and they will appear dark purple in color. If the lamps are long and thin and look like a
regular tanning lamp... IT'S NOT HIGH PRESSURE!
